Consultation Protocol with Government of Saskatchewan
Therefore be it resolved that Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association work with the Government of Saskatchewan to create a consultation protocol agreement between municipalities and the provincial government, the purpose of which is to better define our existing working relationship, and outline the protocol for consultation on issues of mutual interest.
Response: This is a request that has some merit and will be discussed further within government. There has been considerable effort over the past three years to emphasize dialogue and ensure mutual respect through the development of a â€œgovernment to governmentâ€ relationship between the province and the municipal sector. Such as protocol would perhaps more formally define this. However, it needs to be clear that crafting such an agreement must be sensitive to the needs and decision making processes of both parties. The goal would be to form agreement that commits both parties to pursue open communication and a commitment to conflict resolution while respecting our specific responsibility and jurisdiction
