Reduction of Carbon Emissions in Rural Saskatchewan

Year: 2016

Whereas climate change is a critical environmental factor facing the future of this planet; and

Whereas there are several man-made factors which contribute to climate change of which the creation of excess carbon is one; and

Whereas the availability of safe, clean air is becoming a serious concern for residents, especially seniors, during many intervals over the course of a year; and

Whereas, the burning of garbage refuse in urban centres is prohibited; and

Whereas the Government of Saskatchewan has invested over a billion dollars in carbon capture technology; and further, since the province in concert with other provinces and the federal government, is being proactive in setting goals to regulate emissions;

Therefore be it resolved that the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association advocate with the Government of Saskatchewan to introduce, pass, and enact the required legislation to reduce the burning of stubble in Saskatchewan.
