Improving Mental Health and Wellbeing through Community Recreation
April 13, 2021 - 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Municipalities of Saskatchewan’s 2021 virtual Convention featured an education session interview with Tristen Durocher, who in the summer of 2020, walked 635 kilometres and fasted for 44 days to raise awareness about suicide in the province. The webinar Improving Mental Health and Wellbeing through Community Recreation is inspired by Durocher’s interview.
On April 13:
9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. – Watch a replay of the interview with Tristen Durocher. In the interview conducted by Rhonda Rosenberg, executive director of the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan, Durocher discussed steps that municipalities can take towards creating safer and healthier communities, which include investing in recreation.
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. – The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) will discuss how recreation can be a catalyst for building safer and healthier communities. This session will focus on the importance of recreation, its influence on wellbeing, and how it can serve as a valuable complement to a holistic community mental health strategy. You will also learn concrete steps that your municipality can take to create more inclusive, safe, and affordable spaces for people to gather.
Note: You do not need to attend both sessions, simply log on to Zoom at the time that each session is taking place.
